History

Our faculty was founded as Hacettepe University Eskişehir Faculty of Medicine in 1970 and first alumni graduated under this name. Students that were in this faculty were enrolled in Anatolian University mid-season to our faculty graduated with a diploma from Anatolian University Faculty of Medicine in 1982. Students that were in our faculty from the first year of education graduated in 1986. This faculty was separated from Anatolian University and re-established in Osmangazi University in 1993. Our university was renamed as Eskişehir Osmangazi University in 2005. Our faculty is currently providing medical education with 43 main specialties and 55 subspecialties.

Pediatrics Department was one of the early established departments after the Eskişehir Faculty of Medicine Hospital was founded in 1977. First president of Anatolian University, Prof. Dr. Servet Bilir, was also the head of Pediatrics Department. Five founding members of our department were Dr. Güler Süloğlu, Dr. Ayten Yakut, Dr. Nurdan Kural, Dr. Necat A. Akgün and Dr. Arif Akşit. The department was made of a 15-bed ward and a single-room polyclinic. The single-room ward was separated with glass barriers into Newborn, Infant, Infectious Diseases and General Children wards.

As of today, our faculty has 15 subspecialties providing medical services with 9 professors, 9 associate professors, 7 assistant professors, 16 fellows and 48 residents.
