Chief Resident

Chief Resident is the senior resident (37 months or above, not yet a specialist) that is chosen "Chief Resident" by the Department Academic Council.

Choosing the Chief Resident:

  • Residents who finish their 3rd year of education gain the possibility to be a "Chief Resident Candidate".
  • Department Academic Council reserves the right to choose who will be the Chief Resident.
  • For this purpose, the Head of Department presents the candidates to the Department Academic Council.
  • Residents who are found fit for the position according to their work performance, adherence to education, loyalty to their job, harmony with colleagues, management skills, communication with their consultant and other academic staff, respect and merit are chosen to be Chief Resident.
  • There are no limit to how many Chief Residents there can be.

Duties:

  • They are responsible for polyclinics, wards and management in the working hours according to work distribution.
  • They manage hospitalizations.
  • Evaluate referrals from other hospitals and accept them deciding together with the respective subspecialties.
  • Prepare monthly work schedules of residents and present it to the Head of Department.
  • Manage theoretical and practical education of residents.
  • Accepts consultations from non-pediatric wards and evaluate together with senior physicians.
  • Help residents with any professional or other problems.
  • Prepare monthly education program and present it to the Head of Department.
  • Help the academic staff with weekly education meetings (mortality and case presentations, radiology meeting, seminars, lecures, panels).
  • Allow all residents to benefit from main resources in pediatric head resident room like textbooks, journals and online educational content.
  • Help residents and interns with their research, seminars and presentations.
